Anorexia and Bulimia Treatment in Salem and surrounding area

Eating disorders, such as binge eating, anorexia, and bulimia nervosa can not only be physically, emotionally, and financially draining but can also prove fatal. They also cause great grief to family members and friends that witness their loved ones in dire need of help but don’t know what to do or who to turn to. Fortunately, I have been trained to work with clients who suffer from an unhealthy relationship with food. At Pathways Counseling Service, I strive to neutralize one’s over-preoccupation with food so that meal times need no longer trigger an excessive need for control or lack of control. Below, are just some employs of the eating disorder services that we provide in Salem:

Anorexia and Bulimia

Pathways Counseling Service will identity and diagnose the eating disorder that ails you or your loved one and provide the most effective treatment to eliminate anorexia or bulimia nervosa based on the unique needs and triggers that caused the development of the eating disorder in the first place. Both disorders are enmeshed in a need for control, only expressed differently. In the case of anorexia, control is taken to its penultimate heights where a sense of empowerment can be derived from restricting caloric-intake. In the case of bulimia, one’s sense of control is completely lost as evidenced by large consumptions of food at one sitting. Though each are at the opposite end of a pendulum’s swing, both can be triggered by life stressors that over turn one’s sense of normalcy. Sometimes (but not always) these eating disorders can be preceded by either depression or anxiety. Hence, an eating disorder serves as a coping mechanism and is used as a means to ignore the real problem at hand.
